HANDSOME, LOVING ORANGE BOY IS A STAFF FAVORITE
Hello friends! My name is Panda. I am a big, soft, plush and very loving five (5) year old boy looking for a forever home where I can brighten your days with my loyalty and affection.
I had a home once. I was in indoor boy who lived in Baltimore. Then things went downhill. I found myself outdoors with a group of cats in the city. I had to forage for scraps of food in alleyways and wherever I could find a bite to eat. This was all new to me! This wasn't how I was raised. I didn't understand how competitive and vicious the my world had become.
I sustained a permanent foot injury that may have come from a gunshot wound. I wasn't as nimble and quick so a more seasoned street cat who knew how to play the game grabbed me and delivered a deep-puncture bite wound. This is how I came to be FIV+. Don't stop reading because I am "Positively Adoptable" just like the many FIV+ King Street Cats alumnae before me who are now cherished family members in the forever homes. I'll tell you more about my health in a minute.
Someone reported me and the cats I was with to animal control. They also told the animal control officers that a woman had moved and simply thrown us outside to fend for ourselves!
I received excellent care at the Baltimore shelter. My foot was examined and x-rayed. My injury, whatever it may have been, has healed. I will always walk with a limp but it does not slow me down one bit! Ask my friends at KSC - they'll reassure you that I don't even think about it.
I am one handsome and loving boy. The staff at King Street Cats loves me to bits. Everyone enjoys my friendly, affectionate purrsonality. I soak up pets and head rubs and follow my human friends around just to keep them company. I am well-mannered and gentle, and I simply love my human friends.
I know, and my friends here know, how happy I'll be and you'll be if you choose me and take me home. I am everything you could want in a loyal companion and affectionate friend.
Now let's talk about my health, because I know you're wondering.
Yes, I am FIV+, which means that I have Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. At some point I must have been received a *deep puncture* bite wound from another cat with FIV. You can still adopt me! My friends at KSC will answer any questions you have, but let me give you the basics:
• FIV is not the same as Feline AIDS.
• It is not the same as the human forms of HIV or AIDS.
• Humans cannot catch it. Dogs cannot catch it.
• An FIV+ cat does not necessarily develop Feline AIDS.
• FIV can only be spread from one cat to another cat through deep-puncture bite wounds.
• My care requirements do not differ from those of a non-FIV cat.
Here's what I'll need in terms of care:
-
I'll need you to feed me a high quality diet (preferably a grain-free, high-protein canned/wet food);
-
I'll need you to come to know my behaviors so that you can notice changes that may be health-related;
-
I'll need you to develop a good working relationship with a veterinarian who is current on FIV issues, and seek that veterinarian's assistance if you notice any changes in my behavior or health;
-
I'll need you to provide me with regular veterinary care;
-
I'll need you to keep me indoors so that I am not exposed to feral cats or wild animals.
That's all. Wouldn't you do that for any kitty? I thought so!
Please come to meet me! It's easy to get started: send an email to contact@kingstreetcats.org and ask for me, Panda. I can't wait to come home.
Wonderfully yours,
Panda
