OUR VOLUNTEERS CALL HIM "SWEET PATRICK" BECAUSE HIS LOVING DISPOSITION SHINES THROUGH NO MATTER WHAT
Hello friends! My name is Patrick, or "Sweet Patrick" as my King Street Cats friends call me. I purr when I hear that! It makes me feel very special after all I've been through, and I've been through a lot. It's incredible to me that there's a group like KSC who would take in a guy like me and give me what amounts to a brand new life.
All I need to complete my dream-come-true is you: a purrson to call my very own.
I came into a public shelter as a stray. I wasn't feeling well! I had an eye infection and my teeth needed serious attention. I wasn't thriving at the shelter, and in my condition, my time was running out. I thank the friends there who did their best to help me, and I especially thank them for putting out the call to King Street Cats!
KSC preapred a comfy bed for my arrival so that I could relax and begin to heal. Unfortunately, we had a few more hurdles to clear. My eye infection needed more attention, as did my mouth. The King Street Cats veterinarian determined that the infection in one eye could be treated easily but the other eye needed to be removed. I had teeth removed and I am so much more comfortable now! It feels wonderful.
The blood tests that were performed in the course of treating me revealed that I am FIV+. No one was surprised given that I'd obviously been fending for myself on the city streets. I undoubtedly came into contact with another cat who attacked and bit me - deep puncture bite wounds from other cats is the way FIV is contacted.
Let me tell you more about this. FIV stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. It is NOT the same as human immunodeficiency virus, of HIV.
-
I repeat: FIV is not the same as HIV.
-
Humans cannot contract FIV from me.
-
Dogs cannot contract FIV from me.
-
In order for another cat to contract FIV from me, a deep puncture wound bite would be necessary. I am not like that - I am not aggressive.
Likewise, I would not go home to an aggressive cat who would be tempted to fight with me.
This is what I ask of you in light of my FIV+ status:
-
Keep me indoors and away from any aggressive cats who are easily threatened or likely to engage in vicious fighting and biting behavior
-
Feed me a very healthy diet, which preferably means wet food without grains and unnecessary chemical and artifical additives (this is readily available commercially, my KSC friends can tell you more)
-
Get to know me and my normal behavior well enough so that you'll be able to tell if I don't feel well
-
Establish a good, communicative relationship with a veterinarian who is well educated about FIV and bring me for a visit if ever I'm not feeling well. The "I" stands for immunodeficiency, which means that I'll depend on your to treat any infections quickly before they have a chance to get out of control.
That's all I ask. I know you would do those same things for any feline friend you brought into your life.
Let me tell you about why I'm called Sweet Patrick!
No matter how down I've felt, I've always had time to lean my head into the hand of a human friend and enjoy that contact. Even though I wasn't feeling my best when I arrived at King Street Cats from the shelter, I immediately found a favorite toy amongst the many offered to me and I played with it just like a happy kitten! I still do. Even when I was at the KSC veterinarian and on medication for my surgery I was gentle, affectionate and purring with everyone who handled me.
Now I'm back at KSC and recovering nicely. I enjoy my human friends' attention so much. I'm gentle and eager for human contact. I purr a lot! I love to play with my toys, and I love when my humans are interested in my toy and want to play with me!
I know some of you reading this will think 10 years old is ancient. It's not. I could be 50% of the way through my life, and if this is so, then I KNOW this half is going to be the best and include the one thing I've been missing: a forever home.
I'm a very handsome boy with extremely plush snowy white fur all over and mocha colored patches with tabby stripes and swirls on my top side. I'm very silky, which means you'll love petting me. I will purr and purr to show you that I enjoy being petted.
I'm not fond of other cats. I keep to myself here and focus on my human friends. It's reasonable to believe that given the shape I was in when I came to the public shelter, other cats had been very mean to me. I would prefer to be your "one and only" feline. I offer you quiet affection and loyalty in rerturn.
Please consider finding space in your heart and home for a sweet boy! Please tell your cat-loving friends about me as well. I can't wait to thrive in my own home. My volunteer friends at KSC are all rooting for me.
It's easy to get started: send an email to contact@kingstreetcats. org and ask for me, Sweet Patrick. Please follow King Street Cats on Facebook. I'm the Cat of the Day for November 10, 2018. You can read more about my journey.
Thank you so much.
Gently yours,
Sweet Patrick
