Hi everyone, my name is Melissa and I came to King Street Cats in April 2020. I am just over a year old but it was sure a bumpy road to get here.

Not so long ago I was in a home and I had kittens but something awful happened. There were flames, it was hot and so very very smoky. I was scared, I needed to stay with my babies but I wanted to run. I knew I couldn’t save us but then someone came for us and took us all out of that terrible fire. Because of the fire my babies and I had to go to a shelter. My kittens were ok but I was pretty sick from all the smoke. I had something called cortical blindness (my eyes were ok but my brain was hurt from the smoke), had trouble moving and shook a lot. The hospital they sent me to helped and after a while my sight came back, moving was easier and the shaking got better. My medical troubles weren’t over though, they discovered the end of my tail was injured and they had to amputate part of it.

My kittens all got adopted and with everything that we had been through together I didn’t do well after they left and got pretty sick. Things started looking up though when someone adopted me and I thought I was going to have a home again…but it only lasted 5 days and I as back at the shelter. So the shelter asked for a hero to step up and help me…of course, that was King Street Cats.

I was pretty scared when I got here but am doing better now and have the run of the place! The wonderful volunteers at King Street Cats have taken such good care of me and I am ready to find my real forever family now.

They tell me I am still a little “quirky” and have some interesting moments that are likely related to some brain issues because of the smoke. But I love people and want so very much to have a home again.

So, that’s my story. Thanks for listening and thank you so very very much for all you all to do support King Street Cats, especially during these really difficult times. You are a part of the heroes that came to my rescue.

Gratefully yours,
Melissa
